spawning
    #4197181 - 05/19/05 07:41 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Got a quick question guys;

I'm almost ready to spawn and my TennStud is taking too long...
Is it possible to spawn PF jars with uncolonized rye, because there is no chance in hell I'm growing on just BRF.
If not, is there any alternatives?

I've never used Rye before, but I think that would be more like a grain to grain transfer. You need the horse manure for the spawning.

So do you mean if my shit doesn't get here I'm just gonna have to birth the cakes and fruit them without spawning to anything?

I know that I can keep em in the fridge for a while but that really is not an option.

no you can stall them, by dropping the temp to 50-60 degrees and hopefully your poo will be there soon. have read where some have stalled for a couple of months even and then pulled them out and they took right back off.

Pluton... it's not such a bad thing that your jars might be VERY colonized. I'd have to say that the extra colonized jars that I've used have made a VERY nice spawn run. Keep em very dark and keep em' kind of cold. Maybe huck a cold pack in a bin and keep a blanket over it or something??

my tenn stud was a week later than i expected. plus fed ex wouldnt let me pick it up at the warehouse and i couldnt sign for it, but that had to do with how requested delivery. so it came 1 1/2 weeks after i thought ild get it. my pf jars sat in 70 degree temp during that time. its colonizing but slowly probably for other reasons beside alate spawn. im sure if u drop ur temps like backupwards suggests than u'll be golden. but if u dont u still may be alright, just take it out of the incubator.

Thanks a bunch for the input guys, nice advice!
I guess if my shit isn't gonna show up, I'm just gonna have to do what you guys suggested and attempt to stall the growth.

One more thing though...so there is nothing I can spawn the jars to except for shit?

I believe you could spawn to compost or straw. Look up a straw TEK.

Good luck bro,

You can spawn the jars to whatever you like. Popcorn, rye, straw, whatever.

Also, once your cakes reach 100% colonization there is no need to hurry up and do something with them unless you are fiendin for some shrooms and can't wait a couple extra days. There are no negative effects from leaving the jars go past 100% aside from drying out(and that takes a while). Have seen some 2 months past with no bad results.

Sorry to turn the topic into a 360, but I was wondering, what about the opposite situation?

Say you have your Tenn Stud Pre-Pastuerized Poo already shipped and at your doorstep, but your jars still need a couple of weeks to colonize. It says on their website

Quote:

" If you purchased our Pre-Pasteurized Substrate we recommend that you use the product within 7 days of delivery. Although it would most likely (because of our filter bags) last much longer, in this hobby you must always have the upper hand when it comes to contaminants."

But how long would be ok? a couple weeks? a month?

in response  to CLUTCH's question;^

keep the substrate in a cool place, and wait until your jars are 100% ready.

impatiens is the No.1 cause of failuer in this hobby .

are the jars fruiting invitro yet?
even so, you may simply clean them in a ziploc and crush them then spawn after they "knit up" for 24hrs or so.

you ought to be fine-
i'd stay away from straw.
poo is very resistant to contaminants-
straw is not.

I was wondering the same thing at one point too...
I think it should be ok if you toss it into the fridge..everything is OK in the fridge...the fridge kicks ass.
