If Instead of Questioning if God Exists
    #4196374 - 05/19/05 05:39 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

What would happen if we lived our lives as if He did? It is when we live in a Godless world that we can lose sight of what we are doing in life.

Currently I see this place and it looks like there is a lot of thought but no direction. We need to decide where we are going. Heaven seems to be expressing itself constantly and the only hell I can see is us denying it.

Lots of people who believe in God, have lost sight of why they are living IMO.

The nature of things is exploration rather than liner direction. We all doing our thing here. Maybe "God" wants to explore everything and is using us as a vehical for that.

What is being expressed constantly is everything, heaven and hell and all points in between. That's the nature of Chaos. Don't try and pin "God" down with your personal belief system. You'll be disappointed.

Holy crap. That makes perfect sense. All of the sudden I was getting visualizations of a kid sitting at his computer, programming computer games. You can make a vast landscape and the editor is all fine and good for getting the job done... but you really have to be in the game, watching from the perspective of a character to see things how they were meant to be seen.

Indeed! God is fucking full-spectrum, man.   :stoned:

It seems that we are a reaction of the eternal. We do and think for ourselves, construct complex realities all to our own so we can live. God seems to be a faceless figure in every face. All the contradictions added together to make the most rational mind.

If we had more god-fearing leaders like Bush, we could wage war on more nations and put more people in prison.

Those damn atheist peace-mongers don't know that God enjoys a good and bloody conflict.

"living our lives like He did"

how did God live his life?
i must assume that you are talking about living a "christ-loke life" - with jesus of nazareth (yeshai ibn maryam) as the starring role of "god incarnate"...
am i correct here?
nuthin' wrong with that, but not every human on the planet is gonna agree that the crucified carpenter rabbi was/is god incarnate... (heck, not even every "christian" is gonna agree with that, mebbe...)

i hear a lot of wisdom coming from the teachings (and life, death, and resurrection) of the one called messiah by the 2 billion or so christians in the world...
but i hear a lot of wisdom coming from the words & life of the dalai lama (and from his religion's founder, shakyamuni buddha)....
and from many other "way-showers"...
almost every major world religion has something very close to what christians call "the golden rule"...

do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

not a bad place to start, i suppose...

"truth is truth, wherever you find it"

You've seen how God lives his life? Neat, I've always wanted to ask Him whether he preferred Thai hookers or Brazilian ones.

Seriously though, we've seen people living by God for centuries, millenia, and what did they do? They waged wars. They oppressed technology and science. They tortured people and executed them. It seems to me that the Faithful are much worse than the atheists.

We may have sight and "meaning" in a world with God, but it also leads to corruption, to imagined heresy, to faith wars. I'd much rather live in a world of knowledge without meaning than a world of God without knowledge.

All the Judeo-Christian God(s) seem to be just as much a part of mythology as those of the Greeks, the Egyptians, the Sumerians, the Aztecs. It's all mythology created by a culture. Just because there's more Christians, Muslims and Jews than fleas today, it doesn't add any more existence to their God than the expansion of the Roman Empire added to the truth of the Roman gods.

I think, if anything, this place needs less God.

I agree with those who say that we should perhaps live with a little less "god" in our lives. If one day it was discovered that there was no God, then what would there be for everyone to do? Wage wars over whose land is who's? Condemn people for using things (eg drugs) that they think are 'immoral'?

More reasonably, everyone would realize that the point of life isn't to fight over everything, but to exist in harmony, enjoy life, get out there, have fun, and give back a little in return.

I'm not asking anyone to blindly believe anything. I'm asking you to decide to see. If you think I'm asking you to believe something dogmatic that is in no way true, then you are the one mistaken.

I've decided I don't care whether God exists or not.
I'll believe whatever is enjoyable at the time.
