sterilizing syringes and note cards

What is an easy way to sterilize a used syringe. Could I put it in a bowl of water and nuke it in the microwave for a while or should I boil it on the stove? Also what is the best way to sterilize note cards to make prints on? The MMGG says to place in a 425 degree F oven for 15 minutes, but when i tried this they were burnt to a crisp within 10 minutes.

I like to use waxpaper and 91% rubbing alcohol

Boil some water. Suck the water into the syringe. Expel it. Repeat two or three times... that should make it sterile enough.
