I was wrong------about Hitch Hikers Guide
    #4195104 - 05/19/05 01:27 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Someone here suggested a short bit back that we have a movie night and go see "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" . From the previews, it looked to me like another Signs, War of the Worlds, or Independence day. I made a crack about being tired of the bad evil aliens movies.

THIS movie is not one of them. I saw it last night. WOW! I don't want to spoil any of it for those who haven't seen it Just wanted to say my daughter, husband and myself thought it was just a really REFRESHING change of pace for a movie. It was delightful and different in a good way.

Thanks guys for bringing it up. I never would have been curious to see it had it not been for the recommendations here.

Two Thumbs Up!

While it is EXTREMELY faithful to the books, it doesn't hardly do them justice. But it is pretty neat to see some of the story in full-blown color and sparkle.

And for the truly illiterate, there's the book on tape version of at least the first book. Plus it uses the word bastard quite frequently, if that's a draw.

You seem to like to insult people. Does that makes you feel strong and powerful? Who said I was illiterate? Because I didn't want to read an unimportant book? I looked at it, put it down and read something else.

You seem to come in swinging to many of your posts. It really isn't necessary. I am not your enemy. :mushroom2:

I don't want to blow it, but I don't think my imagination could have captured the last 10 minutes of film imagery. It was breath taking.

And the President of the galaxy! The visuals alone of his character cracked me up.

Next time I am in a book store I am going to look for the series. I liked the style of wit.

"There is some rule that says a president can't have a full brain"

"You're going to go on the hunch of a guy who uses lemon juice to fuel his intelligence?" :rotfl:

Sorry, but they will be funny again.

I went to a 7:00 show and the new Star Wars was scheduled to show at 12:01 A.M that night. You wouldn't believe the crowed that already gathered to wait in line for the tickets. These die hard fans even show up in star wars costumes. OMG. It reminded me of the Triumph the comic dog video where they went to an opening night. That was hysterical!!!!!!!!

There were only 4 other people in Hitch Hiker. I think the previews don't do it justice.

It was really marketed to people who had already read the books.  I went with a group of friends, some who had seen it, some who hadn't.  Those of us that did enjoyed it, those who didn't generally said something to the effect of "It looked nice but the plot was kind of random."

Although the intro song with the dolphins was priceless.

Doom.......of course he can read or he wouldn't be posting and replying here.

Why jump on someone who is just choosy about what they read. It doesn't make someone illiterate. Who has the time or interest to read every book out there?

Did you guys know Ice is 51 years old? He's probably read more books in his day then many put together here.

(don't mean to lecture, it's the mom in me )

This inspires a new post!

It takes a real woman to admit when she's wrong.  Or is that a real man?  Anyway, glad you liked the movie...

The plot was random and that is what I found to be refreshing.

It's how my mind works. For once, I got to watch a movie and not have my mind taken the grind.

I hope this guy inspires more of the same writing and film producing style in others.

It's hard to say. Today we do have film and television that probably does substitute for a lot of what would otherwise be reading time and MAYBE not.

I think people who picked up a love of reading read the same regardless and people who don't read as much probably still wouldn't even if their was no Film or Tele. I almost always have a book or magazine on my lap when I am in front of the tele.

When I use to work stressful jobs, I use to enjoy a few hours of mindless television.

I think it's a little sad to see kids spend so much time with video games.

This movie was great. I think was the funniest movie I've ever seen. Gotta love that dry British humor. And this was the first movie in a long time that actually made me think. It gave me an odd sense of inspiration.

I started reading the book, too, which is equally funny. But whoever said this is a 'one day read' is off their rocker. You either have to be a speed reader or have a good 8 hours free to read it in one day.

I'd suggest buying the compilation book, it's the only place you can get the last book in the series! It was never released as an individual book. Young Zaphod Plays it Safe, I think it's called.

I think it was because of its random plot that punk soda mentioned here. It's a kin to multi dimensional thinking and that sort of think feels good.
