toothpick thin shrooms, WHY?

My first casing was doing really well, I thought. I ended up with a nice number of pins at the beginning. Now there are still a lot of them, but they are growing pathetically skinny, like a toothpick, and the caps are about the size of a pencil eraser around. Any advice to improve my second flush would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. By the way they are b+ cased in verm and pasteurized soil.

SOLID shrooms can be attained on rye.
Key is fresh air..
But you spawn that rye to horse poo and keep fresh air comming and THEN you got some solid shrooms.

no not always no nutrients. I had composted manure and awsome air exhange substrate depth of 5 inches with and 1 inch of casing layer thin and small mushies. Sometimes lack of nutrients could be the problem.

Without good nutrients, all the fresh air and good conditions in the world wont help you. However, in this case its not the problem, since rye has plenty of nutes.

i would recommend increasing casing layer somewhere close to 2". 1" just isnt enough , especially when you pull your first flush out and half the casing layer comes with it.

Not enough spawn to your substrate can also be a factor

The difference is the soil man, no substrate = small mushies. I am doing the same thing as you right now, shrooms with substrate weighed 10 grams more than the shrooms without.

I think by 'substrate' you may be referring to the casing layer? Substrate would be the rye in this case.

Yea I mean the poo/straw/verm, the bulk substrate, not the casing, if there is no substrate just the casing then the mushies would be small as hell, Like if you were to case WBS, then small mushies would come, at least with pan cyans.
