I had some somniferums come with no hair at all, and some come with like half a dozen hairs on the stem right below the pod. Have no idea how the potency differs.

Papaver setigerum (wild poppy - considerably less alkaloids of interest than the domestic poppy) has some hair along the stem. Moreso than the hairiest somniferums i've seen.

Papaver rhoeas (corn poppy - no alkaloids of interest) has loads of hair all over.

The more powerful they seem to be the less hair they seem to have. It's probably not causal but worth noting nonetheless....
