I just read that scraping the outside of a PF-style cake at birth, will increase the number of pins that develop. Can this be true? If so WHY?

I've heard of peeling a cake like that, but usually it was after the first flush to get rid of the extra fruit flesh, dried myeclium and aborted pins that had collected on the surface.

I'm not sure it'll increase yield a whole lot, it's certainly possible, just like deep scratching a casing I suppose.

What strain are you using? PF (and a few others) likes to pin invitro, and get a head start on the fruiting process which can reduce your first flush.
