If they have farm fields I wouldn't ask. If its just a stable they'll laugh and think ur nuts and say yes u can take as much as u want.

Most dont keep it around. They flush it down their toliet. Most probably wouldnt like you digging in their septic system for their poop either. And besides, farmer poop isnt the best for growing mushrooms.
Their animals however have great poop and the farmers usually are cool about giving that away

There are many types of "farms"
Most of them are not "farms" but just places that do one thing and do it well!
A true to the word farm is going to recycle their "poo" and use it as fertilizer on their fields...
On the other hand a place like the "Free horse manure" spot is almost for sure a "Stable" and not a "farm". It is a place that people PAY money to have people "babysit" their horses. They BUY all the food and WATCH horses, and people PAY them to do it... they have to deal with horse "poo" and would most certainly have to PAY someone to get rid of it.... but instead they offer it for free as a resource... Which is where they HOPE you come in!
EDIT..
I grew up on a farm... If someone came up to me and asked for our "poo"... we would want a good reason why because we were gonna use that "poo" on our fields as fertilizer...
Not that we had a "poo"-shortage... but it would have been... and still today would be a "strange" request...
Bottom line is this... have a good reply if you need to ask a farmer for his shit...
For example...
"I am trying to grow the state record tomato and I need some great fertilizer and I understand your operation is top notch"
Ok that is laying it on too thick... lol...
But Im sure you can all intake and adapt.

Just ask around.. I told my mom I needed some H-poo (she knows why) and she told me that her boss has a horse, and just offered her some horse manure.
