Tape???

I posted a few min ago about my jars and tape and posted a new topic cause it seems when I ask otgher questions in ym post I Never get replies when I do that so I'll start frest. So I was asking about my tape and sayign how it was really stuck down to the lid and someone replied and said that was the glue hardening or somethign and was okay as long as I put it back over the holes. Here wa my proceure. BRF jars, lid, tape over holes, then tin foil over top. Then let it cool over night, tape was hard then. Also, I tried some jars by putting a layer of tin foil then the jar top and tlid, then tap, then another layer of foil. So does this sound alright, or did I do somethign wrong with the tape. What abotu gas exchange?

you need to listen to what tahoe says man. he is giving you good advice, where did you read to put tape on them before you pc'd? i have never seen that on here anywhere. as far as your syringe dripping, well you should give it a second or two after expelling into the jar before removing it, this gives it a chance for the pressure of you pushing a chance to equalize out. or when you are removing it you are pushing a little bit. see those syringes are very sensitive when it comes to expelling stuff. especially water as it is not very viscous.

I used tape over my first grain jars as well. They were hard to remove like you said and the pressure equalized when I removed it. But all four of the jars I did that way are about 90% done and no signs of anything nasty... so hopefully you'll be fine as well.
Ps. I read to put tape on them as well... somewhere...

no they shouldn't be screwed. just remember the next time. the only thing the tape did was allow pressure to build inside of the jar. then when they cooled and you pulled the tape you got the influx of air back into your jars. in other words you created a vacuum inside the jars.

it's not going to kill you unless you're removing the tape in a contam filled environment, but like everyone said it WILL suck air in.
the biggest reason i am never doing it again is because it was a fucking bitch to remove in the glovebox...next to impossible. i wanted to cry.

not at all if you just fold over the end of the tape on itself to make a kind of pull tab... worked pefectly for me

Tape is simply a real waste of time IMHO! There I said it again for the umpteenth time.

i was under the impression that you take the tape off either after inoculation or a few days after you first see growth.
