i know a lot of people don't post as much in the trip tips forums... but a thread has come up that I'm pretty heated inside about. now, i realize i could very well be wrong, but it doesn't make sense to me any other way.

I've never grown mushrooms nor have I ever had enough variety of psychoactive shrooms to choose from, but the idea that the strain can affect the type of trip you have seems possible to me.
But this comes from a guy that also considers the possibility of mushrooms being sentient...

I don't really have enough experience to have a real opinion, but I know i had some gt's once...ate 2.5 grams dry, and it was one of the best experiences I ever had. I knew the guy who grew em and he gave them to me. Maybe love was the secret ingredient, I dunno, but yeah...it was a truly golden experience...took em in the swamp, climbed a tree and couldn't get down, every time I tried I just ended up climbing higher.
Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.
Hope that helps

I'm quite sure you're right.
Psilocybin is psilocybin.
Erowid even has a summary of how much psilocybin and baeocystin are in Cubensis. Therefor they probably don't differ too much.

i honestly feel they're all the same too, as well as a marketing ploy to sell different "strains"
about the potency issues, theres lots of variable factors to be considered, strain degeneration, growing conditions, substrate, etc.
but u are right, a mushroom is a mushroom.

Well, I've heard they colonise and fruit pretty fast, and many recommend them for the impatient n00b grower....

Could varying amounts of psilocin be a factor? I really don't know.

honestly, no one can really know for sure when dealing with the psychedelic experience... there is too many facets of the human experience without the aid of psychedelics to truly understand the complexity of individual psychology.
but it sure is fun to debate it, right

Their are several different chemicals in mushrooms that produce phsycedelic effects. Diferent species of Psilocybe have different level of each chemical producing different feelings and effects. Variation from one strain to another has many variables like substrate, water content, nutrition, so on and so forth. You can take a spore print and literaly come up with a 100 000 seperate strain each being very different but slightly remenicent of the mother strain. If you select a specimen for futher propogation it is normaly based on lookd and size. Its often to late to to select one after you eat one. I noticed some people eat one type of shroom and have a good time. Then they eat another type and have a blast of into space.
all in all there are many many variables and to many for a home hobbyest to come up with a cunclusion other then there is much variation between specimens.

variations, yes, but my personal experience with the SAME strain from the SAME host fungis giving me COMPLETELY different trips tells me that it is almost purely dependent on set and setting.

We're not talking about Amanitas. That's a different horse all together.

So amanitas contain a completely different psychoactive substance than psilocybes, correct?

They don't even contain any psilocybin.
And I don't believe they contain any baeocystin either.
