Low humidity problem

AFOAF has 4 PF cakes in a 12gal. Rubbermaid type container. He said it gets misted about 4 times a day via spray bottle. It also has a good layer of perlite in the bottom, but the hydrometer he is using is only reading upper 70's to 80%.He was wondering if adding a little heat such as a heating pad would help. By the way the stems on the pins are taking on a brownish color.

Dont trust those things!
If you have a 90% sealed container with Perlite and Misting 4 times a day!
RH must be 90 +

Hydrometer's can be fooling!@

So no need for the heat pad? And are the brown stems normal, I don't think i've noticed that before on his cakes.

I believe it has been said before on this forum before (I may be wrong) that with the increase of temp. comes the decrease of humidity. Don't take my word for it though.

“Oh, what a love it was, utterly free, unique, like nothing else on earth! Their thoughts were like other people's songs.

They loved each other, not driven by necessity, by the "blaze of passion" often falsely ascribed to love. They loved each other because everything around them willed it, the trees and the clouds and the sky over their heads and the earth under their feet. Perhaps their surrounding world, the strangers they met in the street, the wide expanses they saw on their walks, the rooms in which they lived or met, took more delight in their love than they themselves did.”

Make sure there is no standing water with the perlite. The perlite must be fully exposed to the air in the terrarium in order for it to evaporate enough to provide proper humidity. Don't use a heat pad. Calibrate your hygrometer by wrapping it up in a damp towel for an hour or so. Remove and adjust so it reads 98%.

By standing water do you mean compleatly submerged? Because he said most of the teks say to use about 1 inch of perlite to 1/2 inch of water. Oh yeah thanx for all the info. Peace.
