my mycelin *is that how you spell it* seems to be stalled... I have all the 1/2pint jars in boxes in my closet at about 70degrees....... would it be a better idea to take them out so they are in a lighted room? like normal room light? Does the mycelin require light at all and should I use a heating pad to heat them up a bit to spur quicker growth??? Over all just any suggestions as to the ideal mycelin growing environment.

What strain is it? I had my Equadors and B+'s colonize in 70 degree temps. And no you have to keep them in the dark until they are 100% colonized then birth them. Do you have the extra verm layer? If so then take off the tin foil or whatever you have on top of them so they can get some air exchange. You can even take the tin foil or tape or whatever you had covering the holes on the lids off and flip the jars upside down so the CO2 can get out..

Okay so keep them in the dark. Cool that makes things easier. Yes I do have the verm layer... so I should just take the tops off so I can get some air exchange? It looks like there is a lot of water on the sides........ is that going to make a difference? they are Hawiians..... btw, from lilshopofspores.com

yeah water is your problem, turn them upside down, so the water goes to the top, and the bottem can drain out enough to colonize

Be sure NOT to use a heating pad. Even when you keep the temperature at 75 degress, things will still almost certainly dry out. I've seen cakes get blue and crumbly on the INSIDE becuase between the mycelium and the heat there was no water left Grover

You can use a heating pad as long as you keep the humidity up...I accomplish this by putting the heating pad under the container and filling the bottom of the container with moist perlite

I've just got to second what FugusFarmer said. I used a heating pad (got temps ~83) and it sped things up, but when I cased the cakes today it turns out that the top 25% of each cake was uncoloized and was VERY dry. I heard another good idea about using a fish tank heater in a few inches of H2O and putting the jars in the H2O. Just make sure there isn't so much water that the jars are floating around.
