two things strike me and keep ringing true from Coleman Barks excellent transaltions of Rumi (the sufi poet)
one being "the friend" and the other being "the glance":
at times the friend seems to be symbolic for god, and at other times for the ecstatic state, yet at others for the 'sense of being more than one self', (as a product of ecstatic states, or immersion in the realm of god).
and the glance is always refreshing and surprising evoking the lightness of attention, the lightness of heart, and light altogether.
then, very uplifting, is sharing the glance with the friend
I tried to find writings that you mentioned and couldn't find them but I did find other writings translated. This Sumi guy was around in the 1200s but wrote as if he could have been from the present day. Thanks for sharing this.
