Why do we go on and on about enlightenment and religion without questioning why most of us are fucking scumbags?

Why do we go on and on about wisdom when we haven't done anything?

Yes, we should go on and on about enlightenment and religion, and at the same time question why most of us are fucking scumbags. That would be the best approach.

How can we believe in God when our purpose was to first believe ourselves?

I can teach you, don't ask questions. You'll never learn a thing from me. I can tell you don't ask questions. Be your own man, you'll see.
Where were you, I had answers. And so many things to teach. Where were you, where was I. Neither one nor two today.

how do we know that believing in ourselves isn't just as good/the same as believing in God/s?

You should believe in both. What I was getting at was that people who claim to believe in God, saying themselves don't exist are following a set of rules like everybody else. There is something in nothing, you should certainly believe in a God and yourself, one of them - none of them - both of them have to be right.

I know it sounds crazy, but it is - after every stupid thing we could think of, we turn to the Eternal, the One rational mind.

Change from within. Go out of your way NOT to be a scumbag, and be a decent person. It works for me! Then enlightenment will come - I think, maybe...I dunno, really. But at least try to be an honorable person.....

Exactly. And also, it's usually the people who think they aren't scumbags that are. It's a world of contradictions. Geniuses think they are stupid, young adults think they are men, etc etc.

Quite true.
I've got a friend who likes to declare how smart he is. Makes him look like a damned idiot. Which he is... so it works out.

I'm not so sure I agree. There have been many immodest people who were every bit as good as they say they are. For example, Mohammed Ali declared that he was the greatest, and he was. At the same time, there are plenty of people who aren't so top-notch who recognize and admit it. There's nothing wrong with recognizing your own strengths and weaknesses. Would you consider me arrogant or deluded if I said that I consider myself intelligent? That's not to say I'm the smartest person here, or that I'm a genius, but I know that I'm a bit of an intellectual, and I think it would be stupid and disenginuous of me to deny this. Feel free to disagree, though.

I have no problem saying I'm one of the great poets of all time, so you saying that doesn't offend me. We should all see the value in ourselves, but what we must pay attention to that we don't do is push ourselves. We must find out if what we say is true, not what other people say - other people will always lie to you.

I will not always lie to you. I'm quite unpopular in certain circles for telling my true opinions.
