Cascade morel hunt
    #4180483 - 05/15/05 10:32 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

I went out this weekend with DH to pick some morels and we did pretty well.  Found them in a variety of habitats, from forest fires (although these were dissapointing for how much they get talked up, guess we didn't hit it right ) to new land developments and then just random spots in the woods.  Just finished cooking some up for the third night in a row!!

Here's some pics...

A nice little vein

Morels seemed to be the mating grounds of these guys, they were all over.

Here's 2/3s of my half, I was hungry when I got home, so this is minus our dinner

Peace - @cro

thats amazing, how do you clean them so you don't get some kind of dirt or something in your food?

Hey Acro,  Haven't seen you post in a while.  That beetle post will get a pic of the month nomination from me.  :sleepingcow: :sleepingcow:

I don't know why,  but everytime DH hunts, he always finds something.  A very nice haul for both of y'all.  Any hints on elevation?

Peace.
Stymee.

If you use a knife to cut them from the ground, you leave most the dirt behind.  Then just a quick rinse to remove most the rest.  You'll never remove it all but who cares, it's just dirt.  I used to eat it all the time as a kid, surely it can't hurt me now.
Anyways, a little dirt is easily overshadowed by the delectable taste of one of the best mushrooms around.

We were picking between 2300-4300 ft. A little NE of where we went last year.

thats really neat, hunting sounds fun. But alas I live in an area where everything is private and probly nothing grows here anyways. I've never eatern a morel, I'd like to try one some time, can you grow them? or are they reserved for the experts?

DH those are very good photographs. What ind of camera did you use?
