birthing cakes when colonized or when primordia show?
    #4178204 - 05/15/05 12:10 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I've read on the some of the teks that you should keep the cakes in jars a few weeks after full colonization till you see pinheads and primordia. I just birthed mine when they had fully colonized. I was curious how many of you wait these extra few weeks or if there is no harm in birthing them early. Any feedback would be great.
Thanks.

I always wait about 3-4 days until after they are fully colonized, no need to wait until primordia show. Getting them out into fresh air will make them pin quicker.

Yeah it's good to give em a few days after they finish on the outside so the center finishes.

No need to wait for primordia. A day or 2 after fully colonized wouldnt hurt tho. Dunk before first flush for best first flush yeild.

After they are fully colonized, I take it right from the incubator into the fruiting chamber. For cubies, the drop in temperature, oxygen, light and humidity initiates the pinning. No worries there.

It's just me, but I dont dunk till after the first flush. (I use vermiculite though). My first flush always is bountiful but the second and third could use the dunking method. Your results may vary. Experiment with it and have fun. GL.
