Avoiding middle-casing aborts?
    #4180507 - 05/16/05 12:38 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

So, say that one has a field of promising, fat pins that range throughout the casing surface.  But for some ungodly reason the pins in the middle (which happen to make up the dense portion of the casing) abort and go blue-gray and the ones on the perimeter of the casing go ahead and mature.
What is the problem that is causing these aborts?  Is it air exchange?  Hydration is applied with a misty mate mister, so aborting is not (one would hope) caused by water droplets.

  Any help?

There is so much potential wasted...

Don't know what to tell ya. But if ya think about it. Most of the condensation on the lids forms in the middle of them. Hmmmmmm. Could be the prob. Water droplets on primordia will do it every time. Cause aborts that is.

Naw...these are casings.  Misted with ultra fine mist so that the impact of a given droplet is never heavy.  And I believe Hyphae made the point, "They get misted in nature."  I don't, as of now, understand how pins will abort (they have tiny orange caps) given the conditions.  Dunno.  Two casings with pins that were looking good went the way of the Dodo.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
