My Pressure Cooker (not building up pressure?)
    #4179477 - 05/15/05 08:23 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I've never used a pressure cooker before, I've never even seen someone use one before. I just got one from my grandma, a presto 8 quart old school job with no gauge. I put it on the stove for about forty-five minutes on med-high and waiting for the rocker to start rocking but it wouldn't. So then I took the rocker off and waited for the steam to come out of the top. I waited for about ten minutes but no steam. I started touching the lid and noticed that it was on but kind of loose. I locked it in but I don't know if what I did was right. I don't think any pressure was getting built up because steam was coming out of the pot.

I am extremely confused and I did search around quite a bit but I couldn't seem to find answers for this. Thank you.

well if the lid isnt on right then pressure isnt going to build. also you may want to check the safty rubber plug (assuming your p.c. has one) my safty plug had some debris in it and pressure kept escaping through it. you also may want to check the rubber ring in the top to make sure its not broken. so i guess just check all that and try again. my p.c. takes about 25 minutes to build up to 15psi

Perhaps your seal is missing. Is there a big rubber ring set into a grove in the lid?

Did your cooker come with a rubber gasket? Elementary, but I gotta ask.

The pressure cooker as it is right now with steam coming out.

I see a safety plug, but no gasket in the 3rd pic. Rubber gasket, underside of lid. Yes/No?

Do you mean the vent pipe opening on the inside part of the lead? If so there's no rubber around it.

No, I mean a rubber gasket around the inside of your lid as pictured here. It looks like you don't have one.

Oh I see what you're trying to point, there's supposed to be rubber around the locking part of the lid?

Damnit... where can I find replacements and for how much?

Can you buy replacement sealing rings at a local store or do you need to order them online?

I found them available at Ace Hardwares, I'll pick one up tomorrow. Thanks for letting me talk to myself in here.

Ok, good luck. If not try an online parts retailer like http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/

poboy. This pic is borderline fucked up.

I'm an not some liberal eco nazi but you shouldnt point a gun at an animal. I know the cat might not know what it is but the cat probably can sense that it is a thing of power and feels threatened by it.
I pointed a gun at my husky once and he cringed and hit. I didnt shoot it, he had never heard a gun shot, he had never seen a gun, almost like he sensed that it could hurt him. Im not saying he can sense that gun but he could sense whatever i was giving off. I would never do it again.
Just a thought

Plus the fact thats a photoshopped pic. I thought you would have been smart enough to figure that one out tahoe.

It was the rubber gasket... I feel stupid now but like I said, I've never used or even seen a PC'er before. Thanks everyone who helped out.

I got five jars PC'ing right now and everything seems good.
