A thought about my life, never before shared publically....
    #4179062 - 05/15/05 06:25 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

During most of my life, I have felt that in order to have a successful social life, I must dumb myself down to fit in with the rest of the people out there. Or even: i Must dumb myself down to fit in and be able to relate to the popular "templates" of a persons state of awareness a s most people could be categorized into a social template... At one point in time I even thouht that extensive drug use would kill enough brain cells that i would be able to fit in with these people and finally be like the other happy, (able to have social lives) kids out there.

when i was younger i thoguth that marijuana was teh key to fitting in socailly, as it seemed most of the "cool kids" (the ones with a lot of friends) smoked marijuana... (note that i was in high school at this point in my life). i thought there was something to do with THC ( and other chemicals in marijuana) mixed with human conciousness that made you more able to interact socially compared to liveing a sober lifestyle (which i did until I was 17 years old).

Now being a seasoned marijuana veteran I have realized that marijuana does not increase social aptitude, but relieves oneself of a feeling of overwhelming oppression (a quote stolen from someones signature). That is truly what it does... whether you are truly freed, or just convinced mentally that you have been freed is another topic all together.

mariajuana is an interesting drug... When reading about what marijuana actually does, people often describe it as fun: ("it gets you so fucked up MANG!.") But I have found that once you get beyond the initial mind fuck effect marijuana produces, you realize the true effects the drug has on a human being... whihch i stated in the above paragraph.

I think my real question here is:

Are all human beings based upon the same mental structure? ie: will all human beings experience the same thing in life if born into the same situation? If you were to be born in someone elses place, would you turn out exactly like them? Or are there other factors, to be factored in?

When considering basic psychology, you could dumb this whole thread down to "Is Tabula Rasa a real idea or not?"

I think the struggle is to be all of who you are in a way by which you still fit in, and indeed command respect, socially. Everyone is so much different than the next person, yet so few actually express their uniqueness.

I think everyone would be 90% the same but I do still believe that genetics plays a role on personality as well as body. One example is that I think an eskimo born and raised in the arctic by white men is going to feel more comfortable than an arab born and raised in the arctic by white men. I do think each race has some sort of mental relation to the home environment of that race...then the other factor is body type.....a tall person is just going to have a basically different attitude toward other people than a short person...but identical twins born and raised under the same conditions usually turn out with almost identicle personalities.

Even with the idea that we are born as a blank slate, does that mean how we make decisions depends only on experience? I don't think this could be answered here right now because we don't know enough of the human brain and how it reacts to reality.

For example, there are different levels of experience that many of us don't feel valid. what about unconcious? dreams can be logged in our minds memory conciously, and since your dream is a a part of your conciousness (you can think and dwell on them for instance) it can effect on how you go about experiencing and reacting.

This would be about innate ideas. you ask "will all human beings experience the same thing in life if born into the same situation?" what about "can two people who experience two different lives experience the same thing at some point?" that answer to my question is yes, it happens all the time. we laugh at the same time, even sometimes say the same word when in conversation.

"When considering basic psychology, you could dumb this whole thread down to "Is Tabula Rasa a real idea or not?""

In the situation a couple of people had the same idea. is it real? maybe. Would the whole city say that same world in the same situation...I doubt it. cause it doesn't work for everyone does it make it any less real?

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

We have instinct, I believe babies under a certain age's brains only run mostly at the delta frequency, which for adults is the frequency seen in deep dreamless sleep. Your genetic makeup affects you more in every day life than you realize. Your physical appearence especially will have key impacts on your life.

They've done studies with identical twins, where they were seperated at birth and brought back together, I remember 1 set of twins brought back together at the age of 40, had a wife with the same name, a dog with the same name, the same number of kids, the same favorite color, the same occupation field even. Also I studied in sociology, that twins have as similar of an IQ score as someone who would take the test twice. I personally believe due to this that genetics plays a far larger role than most people would like to accept.
