Overlay caution, can't stop the mycelium from growing on casing
    #4177888 - 05/15/05 12:58 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

it's been about 2 days since I pulled out my stuff from the refrigerator (24 hour period) and.. put the trays in the fruiting chamber (High Humidity - temp(75F) - 3 to 4 times fanning)

mycelium growth has been really fast and I "cold shocked" when mycelium was not evident on surface of casing.

am I just being too attentive to my project, or should I take additional steps to correct my situation?

I included images to help discuss my mycological concerns.

also, just in case anyone was inquiring about my whole progress in this hobby, I included a link to a late post which goes into detail about this thing. It's my 1st time doing this, thank you in advance

That isn't overlay yet. If those are cubensis, they are a tropical warm weather species and receive no benefit from a cold shock. All you did was set fruiting back by a couple of days. Cubensis fruits from May to October in hot weather climates. Cold shocking is for cold weather edibles that fruit in the fall.

well, hopefully I didn't do any harm, other than the fact that I delayed the fruiting by a couple of days..

Lies lies lies. Even though cubes grow in hot weather climate, they still get a temp drop at night, I don't see why more ppl can't realize this. Cold shocking is not just for cold weather edibles, and anyone that says cold shocking cubensis doesn't do anything is a fool.

This entire forum is biased against cube cold shocking, and I can't stand it. If you go to any other mushroom cult forum on the net you will find that cultivators live and die by cold shock.

Not all of it is  that bad. The stuff that looks like a doormat is what you want to avoid. The stuff that looks like white pudding will pin. This is for those of us who are to lazy to patch.

turns to then to

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but a lot of people overly panic over it.
