Anybody add sugars to their grains/cakes? Liquid cultures are usually recommended at a 4% concentration of sugars, be it honey/karo/dextrose/glucose. Any more than this may inhibit growth, and if too much is added no growth will occur. Adding less is usually not a problem BUT it does open the door for more contams which could not grow in a 4% solution but can thrive in lower concentrations. I have never read up on contams so do not know if the 4% will rule out some of the common contams seen in mushroom cultivation, maybe some of the contam experts could comment.

But the main reason for adding sugars would be additional nutrients. I am trying the 9er tek at the moment with 1kg of brown rice. I have added about 5 crushed B vitamin tablets, the water was very weak coffee, and I also added 50g glucose. Rice is only 1.3% sugar dry so when cooked it will only be about .4-.5% sugar.
To test it properly I really should have a few bags inoculated with the same cloned LC, one with no glucose one with a 2% final sugar content and one with 4%.

Only real problem I see is that the grains would be sticky and unshakeable, this is not a problem for cakes though.

There are already plenty of carbohyfrates in rice, no need for additional.
