Sensory deprivation = powerful trips?
    #4176848 - 05/15/05 02:38 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

i've found that to get the most powerful experience out of mushroom trips, the less you stimulate yourself, the better.

my theory is that the less your mind in its hightened sensitivity and awareness, the more you can explore it and the more the mind will provide for you.

trippy music and visual things can be entertaining but i find they can be a total distraction from where you want to go. they just seem to take over and your mind is lead by these things.

that being said, total darkness and silence in a bathroom is great. it lets my mind just drift...

would you agree? disagree? and what are your experiences in these situations?

i'm also familiar with john lilly's sensory deprivation tank. if only i could get me one of those...

sensory deprivation is more like a waking dream without the psychedelic buzz...it can be 'psychedelic' but you don't feel all fucked up from what I hear. it's more like falling into sleep where you sometimes see/hear things but still know you're only falling asleep and between phases.

In sensory dep I find that my eyes tend to get heavy and I feel like I am dreaming. There is a lot to be gained from this but also there is much to be gained from other states of mind. It's hard to say but I definitely like the whole blackness thing. You can see clearly that way. Theta Waves.....

Terrance McKenna says sensory depprovation works.

He suggests trips in the dark 'cause, gyess wqhat? The prehistoric humans often tripped at night w/ no electricity.

Want an old school trip? Trip in the dark!
