my aloe vera..
    #4176673 - 05/15/05 01:34 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

i was recently given an aloe plant, i'm not entirely sure how to care for it but it doesn't seem to be very high-maintenance. i tried to google this but i didn't get a lot of information aside from the fact that it's a "succulent" plant and is sort of like a cactus (obviously).

could anyone possibly guide me in the right direction as to how to make this plant flourish as best as possible? i'd definitely be willing to re-pot it in better soil, but i have no idea what sort to get.

will it get bigger if i take it out of the current pot and use a bigger one? i was hoping maybe these plants flower, i'd love to see it happen if they do.

A. vera most certainly flowers, though you might have to wait a few more years.

Give the plant as much sun as possible, but slowly acclimate it to full sun if it's accustomed to lower-light conditions.

Pot it up in a well-draining mix. Something like 50% cactus potting soil and 50% perlite might work well. Fertilize sparingly.

I water mine every two weeks, normal soil. She flowers like a sweet heart every summer. I fertelise every time with a mild nutrient. She is a proud 2 feet tall with a three fot spread. With enough aloe to keep a whole town of burn victims comfortable.

thanks guys.

i found a website with some cool info about them, so i'm going to check it out.. i guess being in such a small pot is hindering its growth so i'm going to repot it..
