I have recently converted to pure grain substrates, meaning no verm used.
I cook up whole brown rice, wild rice, and japanese sweet wild rice and just gently spoon into the jars after draining.

Doing some initial tests with cloned matter, I have found that the same strain colonized in the wild rices seem substantially or at the very least, noticably more potent than the regular brown rice cakes. Don't ask me why, but there may be something in the pigments that may be adding to the food supply. Just a guess.

I mix a bunch of grain with some brf, and some honey powder. If moisture's too high I add verm. No accurate measuring, just whatever looks good. Cuts down on the initial time for grain colonisation.

Don't beleive everything you know.
