Long range transmitter for r/c vehicle?
    #4173805 - 05/14/05 09:22 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hey,
I was reading Baby Hitler's post and it got me thinking about something I wanted to do.

I've always wanted to be able to fly an r/c vehicle outside from the comfort of my home.

On ebay they are now selling micro-camera's with a high-freq transmitter and reciever. This would be ideal for attaching to a radio controlled helicopter or plane and then to the TV in my house.

Now the problem comes when I want to fly my r/c vehicle from inside my house! The range on the r/c stuff is usually faily low. I would be looking for a radius of at least a mile or 2.

I reckon I would have to install an appropriate aerial to the side of the house and have a better transmitter capable of powering the signal through that aerial! The reciever aerial would have to be larger as to pick up the signal.

The other problem is the low flight duration of battery powered r/c vehicles. An avarage unit will be able to provide a max of 20-30 minutes flight. I would need to design the heli or plane to be able to support a couple of hours flight, to make to project realistic!

Any ideas?

my buddy is a video producer and has mini helicopters with camera mounts. The way his work is he has a lap top with a joy stick and he calls the copter like it has a phone number assigned to it and it connects he can fly it as far as it has fuel which is like 10-12 miles
