Stacking cakes?
    #4173776 - 05/14/05 09:05 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

My buddy has capacity for only 36 cakes and problem is that he has maybe 50 cakes ready to go. Heck of a problem, right?

Anyway, can the cakes be stacked on top of each other? Comments?

Need more information? 50 cakes of what size? What strain and substrate? Sounds like a single tub tek with horse manure is in order here. Does he have a large single tub to put these into?

Are we really talking about a friend here or are you asking the question for yourself?

if you try to stack u have a good chance of them falling,i would say get more fruiting chambers, that will solve it and also u will take prime spots off the cakes that has one on them, when i did cakes i had alot of pins form on the top, more on top then anywhere, but your friend can do what he wants!!!!

If you have some horse manure, I would consider spawning the remaining 14 cakes. I would use a fairly large container, spawn the mycelium, case, and fruit.

The cost is minimal and you only have to have enough room to store the container. Otherwise take those 14 cakes and case them in a medium size container with a substrate depth of 2-4 inches and you get some decent size fruits.

In my opinion, stacking cakes is a complete waste of time.

Just hook him up with some of yours since you have 100lbs of it!

Ha, When I had cakes the only part of the cake the fruited was the base which was touching wet verm.

I say crumble those extra cakes up and go bulk.

My friend runs horse stables but how do I ask for a sack of shit? And my step-mother boards her horse there so she might get second wind if I ask...

Ask for it first. Sneaking up and loading it is trespassing and you may get shot. Just pull up to the farm, ranch, stables, or other large animal place and politely ask for some.

Here's what I do over the phone or in person, "Yes, I was wondering if you have any horse manure that I can have? I am growing a tomato garden and I really need some for fertilizer. I would be more than willing to come collect it myself and I promise not to disturb your animals."

I have yet to be turned down.

Yes it has been done before.

the guy used toothpicks to hold the cakes together.

The only problem that I see with this is that you are losing the top surface area of the bottom cake.

I've noticed that most mushrooms are coming from the bottom and that the ones that do come from the top usually abort, or don't have much size.

What also I was thinking was to put a good scoop of verm. between the two.

Roadkill, the toothpick idea is great. Thanks.
