Starting over again

Thanx for your time in advance.
I just got my filter disks. If i innoc right through the filter materal and then cover the hole with tape dont i have a problem the next time i want to use that disk. Wont the hole be permanent. Could i use two filter disks to always avoid this problem.

I also have reusable plastic tops with a small hole for innoc. If i use these tops with a filter will i get any of the benifets that a filter have to offer. Ill have to tape the hole after innoc.

Should I just use the metal ring with the filter disk? Should I cover the pin hole with tape?

I have no glove box if i use the oven tek should i flame inbetween each jar or just use an alcohol swab after the innitial flame.

If I soak my rye overnight then rinse is there enough moisture content to fill the jars3/4 with no additional water?

Lastly I placed an order with ralph. should I flame the needle at all or is it always cleen.

From what I understand, you DON'T inject through the material. All the pics I have seen show you gently lifting the endge of the disk and injecting under it. It would likely make a permanent, contam ridden hole and using two filter disks is just more expensive

The only benefit I would see with using a plastic lid and injecting through a filtered innoc hole would be that you could use very little filter disk per jar. Just cut a large disk into several small patches to cover the innoc holes and you've saved yourself some money. On the other hand, you'll have less air exchange which could be a problem with larger jars.

Most will tell you that you only have to flame once every jar, and only REALLY have to flame every two-four jars. However, I'm a paranoid mofo and if I'm going to invest the time hunched over an oven I will make sure it's done right. Basically that means dipping the needle in alcohol and flaming it off between every HOLE while using the oven tek. The needle gets gross, your back hurts and if you're not careful with the alcohol you can make fascinating little explosions...but when you don't have any contamed jars it's well worth it.

Flame at least once per jar, that way theres no chance something gets carried from jar to jar.

I'm definitley the wrong person to say anything about Rye, don't know a damn thing about. I'll let someone else answer that
