Hey, I have a question I am going to try my luck growing Mushrooms. However I am very confused by all the techniques I cant seem to decided on one method. I want the easiest possible way to produce a great yield of Mushrooms. If any one can help a newbie it would be greatly greatly appreciated. I was thinking of ordering an EZ grow mushroom kit from the Homestead Book Company http://www.homesteadbook.com/ezgromushroomkit.html however I thought I would ask you guys first, is this the way to go for an inexperienced beginner has anyone tried this kits please let me know.

Although those grow kits may be good for some, I've had success without them... And i don't feel as though you "need" them. go to: http://www.shroomery.com/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=33 for the substrate formula, and to: http://www.mycotopia.net/teks/hongus.html for the Hongus Casing Tek. I've found those are the easiest for me. I don't know how much that kit costs, but i've kept my costs down using these two methods. good luck, and don't hesitate to post questions on here... There are good people on here. abudiwa

I think that for my first attempt I will order an EZ Grow kit, then after that move into different techniques. The more I read about the subject the more excited and anxious I am to get involved in the hobby. Again thanks for the advice

its up to you but i wouldnt recommend a kit..its just as easy to get some spores some jars some brown rice flour some vermiculite and go with it..
I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,

i second third eye. use the method published by Psylocibe Fanaticus (sp) and just use a semitranslucent rubbermaid for a terrarium. save your money for later.

go with the PF tek...
He somehow manages to breathe in his sepia, wounded-tea, liquid ambiance suspension.

By the way, the PF site is back up, un-updated still since August 3. People were starting to wonder why it was down about 4 days. I guess that he didnt pay his bill for the site.

Hey, Hmmm I?m still confused on the casing technique as I read more of course its becoming easier to understand and my vague idea of what to do and how to do it is improving with every article I read and site I visit. However I?m defiantly into visuals :P are there any good Mushroom Growing videos on the market that you think would help? I think a video would help me greatly, Thanks.

that hongus tek is really really easy with pictures. I think mushmush.nl (is that the right address?) has some videos, but i think the hongus tek (AKA: Casing for Dummies) is alittle easier than the videos.

All right well I have the casing technique figured out. On the other hand I still have many questions regarding the colonization process. I?m not exactly sure how that works. If anyone can direct me to a page that gives a break down as to what materials you will need, why you need them, what they do, and how and when to use them I would really appreciate it. Also a point that?s still unclear to me is how and why you use a syringe to inject the spores, sorry if I sound uneducated about the subject but hey I?m just beginning and I thank you all for your help and input.

Check out that first link I had in my first post. When you've got your jars with the substrate in them (after pressure cooking) all you do is squirt a cc or 2 in the jar. Syringes are just easier to use if you don't want to open the lids all the way up and welcome contamination. Don't even worry about the questions. Why else do you think you'd learn anything or clear up confusion? Browse around the archives here at the shroomery, there is a wealth of knowledge in them. You may want to use some other recipe that I don't use. It's just kinda whatever you want to do. Hope that makes sense. cheers, abudiwa
