People and their ridiculous aliases.
    #4171479 - 05/13/05 05:18 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I have got to comment on the lengths as to which some people will go to protect their identity. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am really tired of reading about all these frickin animals cultivating mushrooms. We got Grandmothers, Grandfathers, Sisters, Uncles, Aunts, dogs, cats, rabbits, and the list goes on and on.

Do you people really think that load is going to protect you in court? If you got busted growing mushrooms, do you really think the police officer or DA is going to say "Sorry about that sir, I was unaware that this is your dog's operation. Feel free to go sir".

You have a fake name already, some don't, but most do. What do you think the chances are of a law enforcement agency not popping you because you used some alias for your illegal activity? If you're going to get busted, it's not because you're a member of this forum.

We're all taking a risk by growing mushrooms and taking part in spreading the word. Be a man, or a woman, and just say what it is YOU are doing.

Any thoughts?

The only one that bugs me anymore is this "a foaf" crud. It's way overused. A foaf won't protect you in court; afterall, anyone of importance won't get the acronym or it's meaning anyways!

My point exactly. Why say it. We all know who you're talking about. You're just adding to the amount of words you type by thinking in the third person.

Diver, I hate the "foaf" as well.

I can only speak for myself - but I think the point of the obfscation is to do that little extra bit to help ensure you don't end up in court.

Yeah, sure - if you got busted actualy growing shrooms, you're fucked - whatever you said in the forums is going to be a completely moot point; but the point in all these ridiculous aliases, is so that "they" don't have due-cause to begin further investigations on your ass based purely on stuff admitted to on the forums...

I dunno - I started off here pretty careful, but after I got a little more comfortable, I noticed I started slacking quite a bit on using an anonymous 3-rd person and "hypotheticals" in my posts; though I think that's just me getting lazy and irresponsible...

I agree with the foaf thing.... it's gotten to the point were it completely fails to accomplish its purpose - basically, saying "a foaf" - you might as well just say "me" or "I".

I can certainly see some justification in using an alias when you are talking about doing an illegal activity. But let's not forget that YOU registered on this site, the posts are coming from YOUR user name.

Discussing topics in the third person is like telling the bank teller that your friend wants to rob this bank, taking the money, and telling them you have no part in it.

The whole point of this thread is to tell people that you are fooling no one with these antics. No one is going to be doing a stakeout on your home because you're making posts on this forum. If the cops are staking out your house or have you on their hit list, it's because you made a mistake somewhere, not because you asked about incubators or some other form of cultivating.

Why do you think it's legal to by the Magic Mushroom Growers Guide on Amazon.com or other book retailers. Freedom of speech allows us all to freely discuss these topics without fear of incarceration. If that speech included the act of harming someone, that would be a different story, and of course, be infringing on the rights of others.

We all enjoy some limit of anonymity and that's why we choose user-names. You may be Plutonium, but you are making your point in this thread, not on behalf of some arbitrary entity.

What is this "Reading 101". I qualified my statements in the first part of this thread. Always read the question or statements before making any comments. I made it pretty clear what this topic is about.

I chose Wronguy so I wouldn't get the "User name already taken" message that most large sights have. I'm so used to that name being taken elsewhere, that I started with Wronguy.

There you have it.
