Problems holding RH, pic of setup, advice please.
    #4170893 - 05/13/05 01:05 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Ok I have a small grow chamber I made out of a rubbermaid just to use to fruit an experimental casing. I really don't care if the casing fails it was just some extra materials I had so figgered I'd play with it. Anyways, it has pinned and started fruiting but I can't hold a steady RH.

Here is a pic of the setup

As you can see it has good air exchange with the polyfill holes. I even think it may have too much and thats why the RH won't stay up. I had to pipe in an ultrasonic to get the humidity up. However I can't keep it at a constant 90-95%. I can get it to hold at about 80%, but even then it drops. I was quite miffed when I woke up this morning and read 60% RH on the hygrometer I had inside it. So I pumped up the ultrasonic a bit and headed to work. I get home and its all fogged up, no doubt at 100%, although my hygrometer just reads HI at anything over 90%. Anyone have an idea how I can stabalize the RH at around 90%? Without it being too high? If not, is it better off at 80% or upper 90's?

Thanks, hope someone can give me an idea.

That tek doesn't cure the problem, that tek is designed to reduce the mist/size of droplets in the air. All it does is keep the chamber from becoming filled with fog. That isn't really my problem. My problem is getting it to hold at 90ish % RH.

I'm thinking maybe I could put a heat pad underneath it. And spray the sides now and then. The heat would help keep the humidity, however I don't know if having the chamber at 80-85 degrees would stunt, or even nullify the fruits?

p.s. I've tried misting the walls Sludge, it hasn't helped.

casings at 85 degrees is not optimal fruiting conditions, aiming the mist at the side would also work, just like sludge said.

Try pluggin up an air hole or two. Yer probably right on with the "too much air exchange".

As you raise temp. humidity drops.

85 is good conditions for casings, and keep the temps at 71 to 75 and put that ultrasonic on a timer it isnt hard to get a good rh in that small ass fruiting chamber your making this harder then what it has to be,cover the holes and fan it thats it!!!!!!

I don't have a timer, and I'm not gonna spend 10-20 bucks on this little casing. Oh well, was just for fun. I'll just keep my eye on it and try to regulate it best I can. Flush should be done in a week or less so I'm not too worried about it.

HC - How does raising temp decrease humidity? Wouldn't it increase the rate of evaporization, hence raising water content in the air?

As the temp. increases, the air is capable of holding more water. Increasing the temp would mean you would have to increase the moisture. Humidity is a %.
