It looks fuck-i-fied to me in internet explorer and firefox.
Fresh install of XP on a friend's box... Maybe not the latest IE yet (I'll check that later when I get a chance) but firefox *is*.
So yeah, did they fuck up or is this box just hopeless?

What resolution is that? That's probably the problem... the only thing I don't like about the new layout is it cuts off a few of the links (no matter which browser I use).

Exactly.
It's fubared. half the links get cut off, things floating over other things - if you aren't using at least a resolution of 1024x768... but it looks kind of tiny and useless at 1280x1024.
Bad bad design. Someone needs to tell their web designer to review CSS and recommended operation and design using CSS (and proper syntax for the two errors in the splash page). Pixels are bad bad things when you are trying to create a website accessable to everyone. Better to use em or percentages so that it fits the USER'S screen (and all users, at that!).

delta: I'll talk to earth about it early next week; they're super busy getting the extract newsletter ready for shipping right now and I don't want to bother them with it.
On a related note: do you like the new erowid 3.0 design? (the one used on the main index and on each page within)
The reason it was switched to CSS was to get it more dynamic so I don't see why they can't just alter the splash a bit to get it more friendly looking. I've grown fond of the boxes design and I've heard it from on high that it will be possible in the future to set the alchemist (the old splash) as your personal default.
I'll definately pass the message up along as tactfully as I can. You can let them know what you think (be polite about it) by contacting them and they will respond (if you're polite and articulate about what's wrong)

peace
edit: the little floating announcement thing annoys me a bit too but I use the firefox remove object extention to kill it if I need to view the front page. I've already addressed the issue with the developers.

CSS is a good thing - they just have to use it properly
Specifications are a great thing.
When I email them, I will be articulate and show them an example page showing exactly what I think
