Heart worms
    #4169176 - 05/13/05 02:37 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Ever since I was a teenager I've herd rumors about people getting heart worms from eating raw mushrooms. About 2 years ago I ate some raw psilocybe cyanescens, and fried pretty damm hard. Is there any possibility of contracting heart worms, or is this urban legend? The guy who picked them said that he didn't see any worms in them.

It's more common that youd get heart worms from beef, pork or chicken than anything like mushrooms. I think you're safe.

Dogs, not humans, get heart worms from mosquito bites. You don't get them from mushrooms or anything else you eat.

Yeap. Pork is the most dangerous.
Anyway, i don't believe mushrooms can contain heart worms or any other worm dangerous to man.

Thanks for that advice guys, I feel better. I would also like to mention, that when I ate those raw cyanescens, that was the hardest I fried in years.
