Beginner in need of guide
    #4167918 - 05/12/05 09:04 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Hello, I am a newbie to mushrooms and these forums. I am looking for a field guide to psilocybe mushrooms and was hoping someone here could suggest something. I want a guide that will show deadly look-a-likes that I should be on the watch for and also it would be nice if the guide had range maps. I live in Alberta but I make frequent trips to Vancouver so a guide to this area or just Canada in general would be nice.
Also, since I know that Amanita muscaria is found in my area, I would like to pick some. Are there any deadly mushrooms that look like the fly-agaric that I should watch for?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

many many amanitas are extremely toxic and probably lethal. red cap, white warts, white gills, white spores, and the huge bulb towards the bottom all suggest muscaria.. you really can't mistake muscaria, but alot of amanitas are extremely toxic.. some of the most toxic.

im pretty southern.. never been far north at all, but im sure you could PROBABLY find libs up there.. best bet would be cultivation, i'm guessing
