They are the only jars of this strain that a friend has, and unfortunately, he doesn't like ordering online. Should they be cased? or will it positively contam?

I have had similar looking spots, cased them, or spawned to poo (minus the spots) and they fruited fine. I've had similar looking spots when cased though, they never colonized the casing layer...but a mold did. You could attempt casing them...but be very carefull you could spread contamination around your house endangering your other casings and your health.

I dont think its the bothering factor. While I do usually answer questions people PM me, I prefer general questions to be asked in the forum too. This eliminates spending time typing up alot of info to reply to someone, only to have them come and post in the forum the SAME question, ignoring your responses. It also allows everyone to learn based on the question and answer...and allows for more then just one perspective. Sometimes even those of us pretty sure of ourselves, need correcting sometimes...or additional info added that wasnt thought about.

Not long enough sterilization, often ends up bacteria. Jars that are to moist are more prone. To hot incubation also are more prone to bacteria. It can also happen during innoculations, but if another syringe did fine in jars it could have been that batch prepared to moist, or not sterilized long enough? It may have been the syringe too...it happens every now and then. Id try it on a new batch if you have any left and see if the same happens.
If you ever want to know if its sterilizion, or inoculation/syringe...dont knock up one jar, and incubate it with the rest. Nothing should grow in it..
