Options on Air Exchange...
    #4167000 - 05/12/05 05:23 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Ok, while the jars are colinizing ive been debating what to do about air exchange in my fruiting chambers...  and im trying to decide between:
A)Open Air Exchange (take off the lid and fan the chambers).
B)Fish tank pump... (theyre like $12 each tho and im poor)
C) Hepa filter with exhaust fan.  (again, spendy, relatively speaking)

So if i try open air fanning, i got some lysol and lysol aerisol to spray the air with to help eliminate contams... but im just not sure how clean i can get what is currently my bedroom.  carpet floor, old bed, etc.

I was hoping to have 3-5 fruiting chambers, that way if contams hit one its not so hard to stomach, but 3-5 fish pumps or hepa filters is a little more than i can do.

Any advice y'all could give me on what to do here would be greatly appreciated.    Thanks!

fanning and misting is just fine if you can it would better if you could run a hepa in your room but if you don't it should be fine a fully colonized cake is fairly contam resistant. Keep and eye out for a cool mist humidifier one of those and 10 buck worth of hardware can provide air exhange for 3 or 4 fruiting chambers if there not to large

If there is a goodwill in your area give that place a try. The one I always go to has an assortment of humidifiers. And be careful with the lysol it causes mutations.

good go to the hardware store ask for liquid tight fittings usually in the electrical department there usualy a couple bucks each then just get some 3/4 inch tubing for like 6 bucks you got everything you need just use a brita or some suck to take some of the hardness out of your water that with help with the calcium build up

or you could just fan it like a white person.

i wouldnt use lysol in the room you'll be fanning your mushrooms in. seriously, stop being so paranoid about contams.

I got a Kaz Humidifer for 18.99 at K-Mart the other day, you might be able to get away with one of those? I saw a tek on a website explaining how to hook one up to mulitiple fruiting chambers with garden hose... if I find it I'll link it.

I'm not advanced or anything and I'm not claiming to be a big grower, I'm just letting you know what I've found on these subject.

Fishtank pump, hand fan, AND ultrasonic. Just do it. Save up your pennies. Start with the fishtank. Invest in the ultrasonic.

you could use a bubbler system.

one large aquarium air pump...and use one of those valve setups that feed like 3 to 5 different air lines.

I used to use bubblers to humidify and for air exchange in my fruiting chambers.

Buy spring water in 5 gallon refillable containers to use in the coolmist. You cannot beat a coolmist for fresh air exchange & to maintain a fairly high rh.

Coolmist & a bit of misting will do it all. Besides a good substrate & casing mix - Fresh air exchange, light cycles & high rh is very important, if you want meaty shrooms.
