I heard about a guy who brought his computer in after installing an AGP card into a PCI slot.

He had to remove the metal clip, then use a HAMMER to jam the card in BACKWARDS into the PCI slot :wtf:

Some years ago I was consulting for IBM in Boca Raton, FL writing the exception handlers in OS/2 (remember that?). Well, one day I get to my office and have a desperate message from one of the tech support managers who was at a loss on how to help a customer and had escalated the issue to development.

The problem was the each time the customer's computer would boot up, it would get as far as the presentation manager starting, the TaDa! sound came from the speakers, then the machine would immediately power off.

After spending the whole day on the phone with the customer, installing the debug kernel on his machine, testing memory, reinstalling the OS, and dozens of other ideas, I finally got down to First Principles and asked him what kind of power outlet the PC was plugged into.

He said it was plugged into a Clapper. Remember those? Clap-On, Clap-Off. If you don't know what a Clapper is check it out:

http://www.youcansave.com/clap.asp

Whenever the TaDa sound chimed during boot, the Clapper turned off the power and the PC shut off.

Aaarrrgggg!

Not sure if this beats hot glue in the PCI slot, but it comes close!

Them:"My computer won't turn on"
Us: "Is it plugged in?"
Them:"OF COURSE IM NOT STUPID"

i had an old couple come in to buy an lcd monitor about a month ago.  the husband started to touch the LCD display and his wife swatted his hand away.  she said dont EVER touch the front because the fingerprints don't wipe off.  he said "well how do they keep them from getting ruined?"  her reply: they put a screen saver..thingy on it.

i was so shocked i had no choice but to ignore the entire conversation and i asked if they needed help with purchasing a display.  usually i'll correct a customer if they clearly don't know what they're talking about concerning computers, but i just let this one slide, it was too ignorant to bother with.
