Liquid Culture to Bulk Subtrate?
    #4165199 - 05/12/05 04:15 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I have a jar or two of liquid culture, can I just dump the liquid culture over some sterilized horse poo and let it ride? I see most techniques use some spawn first to colonize the horse poo, but you would think that liquid culture would accomplish similar results?

yaaay self quoting fun

one shall use spawn (colonised grains) to 'spawn' straw,

(unless you pour fucking liters of it)

read here about bulk http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/22994

there wouldnt be same success as the mycelium "flakes" in the LC wouldnt
ever be able to so evenly infect the substrate than properly layered/mixed spawn.

The closest you'll get to that, is spawning with agar.

ok, so I would have to go liquid culture, to grain spawn, then to bulk poo.

That is what you should do. the only time I got an LC to catch hold & colonize a bulk substrate was with it in filter/patch bags.

But, it was only about a 60% success rate. Which is way BAD.

I go LC, to grain/wbs filter/patch bags & once colonized - use that as spawn into a bulk sub.

I had some GT growing on horsepoo with a little straw (<5%). I inoculated with LC. Colonisation took long though.

Might be the quality of my LC syringe but I think that is not the case....

But, it worked! Got multiple flushes, never contammed.

MF

PS: I applied the casing layer direct after inoc.
