High Mountain Compost Works, but... It's not really worth the price. *UPDATED-2nd Flush*

I just had to try it for shits and giggles;
This is six pounds of it spawned with 2 pints of rye colonized with Mazatapec, cased in 1/4" 50/50 coir/verm (top only) in a 3 gallon Rubbemaid:
Unfortunately, I failed to take pics of the fully mature first flush, but you can imagine.
It was 34 grams dry.
Second Flush:

Excellent. I'm doing 5lbs of HMC / B+. Almost 100% colonized after spawning/colonizing for the last 11 days.
How long did it take yours to spawn?? Damn those fruits look good!!
But, I'm not sure if I totally agree with you. It "not being worth the $" is based on individual opinions based on individual situations. If you can't obtain and pasturize some straw or poo yourself, it's worth it. When you compare it to the yield of those 2pts if you were to straight case them.. it's much better right?
Please update on flush #2 and what you end up doing with the compost.
Thanks!

I think what he meant was, its more expensive then h-poo and didnt perform as well. I would also say its not worth the money, when TN Stud has what they have.
For instance as a comparison...this is the exact same container as TripM has there...but I filled it with straight straw. Straw can be had for like 4 bucks a bail which is enough do to 20+ of these:
Similar looking flush to Trips (although my fruits arent as pretty, color and form wise) for 100 times less then the HMC.

there are some sites that sell straight horse poo or straight straw or 50/50 for 50 cents per lb but would have to raise there price if they were to become sponsers

Here are my results:
High Mountain Compost, 5LBS spawned with about 5, 1/2pts of spawn on day 11:
H-doo a'la Roadkill TEK on day 5 or 6.. forgot.
Spawned with about the same amount. It's a smaller container so it's gonna go a wee bit faster.
Then, I made some of scatmanrav's mix:
And am going to spawn with 3, 1 qts of wbs and 4, 1/2 pts of PF... about 1/2 gallon:
This is going to be the substrate of the double dub I'm doin' tonight.
I really believe that collecting your own is MUCH more beneficial if you have the resources. If you're in the city and really really can't get any doo.. then doing straw might be good also. HMC does work .. and I bet it's gonna work well!!
Cheaper alternatives do exist.

Well, I find that casing str8 rye berries produces a much more complete 'canopy' type pinset and costs WAAAAAAY less.

Actually quite the opposite.

The topography of your tray is very odd. How did you get the little hill in the middle without spoiling your pin set?

I have found this to be true. Perhaps it was something else.

Cant say that I believe that one whereas I have done both many tmes and found horse poo to far exceed straight berries but it is a matter of opinion.

It may well depend on the strain.

Here's the second flush... I'm not really very impressed with this compost.
