I have cakes which became contamed after they fruited once in the terrarium. They are fruiting again, but have darker/reder caps. The new mushies don't have mold, but the cakes do. Are they unsafe to eat?
Probably best to call it a successful first flush and not mess with the rest. They probably would be OK, but you don't want to be thinking about 'probably' while tripping "I can feel the mold eating my brain!"
I have had my cakes turn greenish in spots after they fruit once, but then they are fruiting a second time and the green is there. It is not the dreaded green mold, but rather one that just grows on the outside of the cake. The shrooms I picked dried like shrooms, smelled like shrooms and got me tripping like shrooms. I have also observed that although there are other cakes in my fruiting chamber with the contaminated one, they do not necessarily get contaminated themselves.
