Help me save my cake! What is wrong!! *PIC
    #4162227 - 05/11/05 02:42 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys.. I'm not having a really good batch this time.. This cake has day that little circle chunk missing. it's not filling in.. been like that for a couple days now.. Now around the uncolonized part it's getting a little darker, like a brown tint kind of color.. don't really know how to describe it. I took some pic, what should I do?

Thanks,
Cray
:peace:

I've had PF jars like that. The problem was the substrate was too dry in that area. I corrected it by injecting a small amount of sterile water into the bare spot. The mycelium recovered and began colonizing the bare spot within hours.

Start with a small amount (< 1cc) and then inject more if needed.

Try cutting the uncolonized area with a sterile blade.

does it look excessively wet or dry on that spot?? If not, just give it another few days. How long have these been colonizing for??

crumble that baby in zip lock bag and case it. maybe cut out the un-colonized part first. or just cut it out then dunk and roll.

Yea, I did what dog suggested and put a little extra water in there to help it rehydrate again. Cuz tomorrow I'm casing it all!! So if it's not done my tomorrow.. (which should be) then I'll just cut some of it out.

Just take the lid off and wet the vermiculite layer down with H20 until it's saturated. Put the lid back on and wait a couple days. It will finish up. It works like a charm to finish up dry cakes. I do this technique for invitro cakes as well.
