Lab Rats
    #4162080 - 05/11/05 01:59 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

So today I was reading this article about spinal cord injuries, and how scientists have found a way to repair the cells in lab rats broken spines....which is cool, because, maybe they can cure paralysis and stuff.....but the real question here is....the rats....did the scientists break their little backs just for research? how does a rat acquire a spinal injury? I don't think he does. I think they take the little guy and break his cute little rat back. Thats what I think.

As cruel as it seems, animal testing is necessary. It advances research and prevents disasters.

Also, it gives rabbits silky smooth fur, and long luxurious lashes.

Wow, I can't believe this is all the Pub has to say about lab rats and animal testing.

I take it by your silence that you agree with me, then.

You're right. They cut the rat's spinal cord.

So, if you could undo the research and save the rats, but by doing so lose the knowledge gained about healing nerve tissue, would you?

Personally, I'm for rat genocide, with or without scientific basis.

These two rabbits escape from the laboratory and see grass for the first time. Lollopy, lollopy, lollopy, lop, they bounce through the grass when they meet an older rabbit. "Hello," says the older rabbit. "Would you like to come and stay at my warren?" "What's a warren?" ask the two rabbits. "Don't worry," replies the older rabbit. "Come and see." So off they go and they like the tunnels and chambers of the older rabbit's warren, and decide to stay. In the morning, the two rabbits are awaken by the thumping of the older rabbit: thump thump thump. "Come on out for the cabbages," calls the older rabbit. "What's a cabbage?" ask the two rabbits. So off they go and enjoy the day in the fields eating cabbages. They return very satisfied with their tummies full of cabbage and agree a good day was had. The following day: thump thump thump, "Come on out for the cabbages", and the same for the day after that. By the end of the third day, rabbit one says to rabbit two, "These cabbages are good but there must be more to life. Let's go and find it." Rabbit two agrees, so off they go lollopy lollopy lollopy lop across the grass. They meet a younger rabbit. "Hello," says the younger rabbit. "Why don't you come and live in my warren. I got young girly rabbits in my warren." So they agree and for three days, it was thump thump thump. By the end of the third day, rabbit one says to rabbit two, "Oh man, I gotta get out of here." "WHY?!?" asks rabbit two. "This is the best time of our lives!" he exclaims. "Yeah," says rabbit one, "but it has been a week since I've had a cigarette.

prisoners are humans.. so they're off limits, that has to do with human rights.. rights that aren't nec. extended to animals. as for chimps, they do testing on chimps for many things... before they do testing on live humans.. its part of a progressive testing process. rats are just bottom of the barrel, K?

IMO it's not about what species you're testing on, it's about what you hope to accomplish. Cure for cancer or a new lipstick?

I think so. Some animals have specific bodily functions that are relevant to certain tests (ie. some animals may have a similar nervous or respiratory systems to a human), and if we can learn important things by animal testing, why not?

I don't think many labs do tests without a specific intention, so it's not like the animals are being harmed for fun.

you know, you could always sign away your rights and take the place of a rat vinsue, if it bothers you so much.

Actually, you can't sign away some of your rights. They're "inalienable". That means you can't waive certain rights even if you wanted to. Not from a legal standpoint, anyway.

There are a LOT of regulations about animal testing, and despite what the PETA newsletter might claim, they are adhered to and enforced.

Both of my parents work in labs. They use mice a lot, and anyone with access to the mice receives special training to ensure they are treated humanely, and the testing done on animals is well monitored.
