Possibly contaminated syringes
    #4159663 - 05/10/05 11:48 PM (12 years, 20 days ago)

Do some syringes have large chunks of debris floating around in them? A friend showed me two recently. One is slightly cloudy and has a 1/4 inch sized dark colored blob in it. The other has much smaller but noticeable debris. Is it possible that these got massive contamination in shipment? Previous syringes I've been shown look clear except for a few little specs here and there. Here's a picture of one. Does this look unusable?

Dose the material have color like green, red, blue? If not the spores have germinated inside the jars creating a gelatin like material, usually due to heat exposure or long term storage.. Yes it is viable but if it was sent by a vendor recently and came like that i would, pm whoever you bought it from and they will be quiet generous/and or it could be a large clumping of spores, but i really cant tell from the picture.. Keep asking questions its the only way to learn..

Well, the color doesn't look like contamination (it's just sort of black). Sorry about the poor quality picture, can't really get any better than that. It looks sort of like what you suggested: a gelatinous mass with what looks like a bunch of spores clumped to it. In comparison, the other syringe isn't so bad. But both were shipped and received very recently, so I don't know about the whole germination thing. Eh, may as well have an email sent to the source.

From the pic, that syringe looks like it is ready to use!! My spore solutions always look like that, the spores just germinated in the solution. Knock something up with it quick, and watch how fast it colonizes.

Source said that it is most probably just germination and that it is still quite viable. I was just surprised because I hadn't seen anything like that before. I'm satisfied as long as there isn't contamination, that's all. Thanx for the input.
