Anandenanthera Species Germination...
    #4152749 - 05/09/05 08:35 AM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Today i am trying to start various plants from seed.Im starting some Viridis with quite old seed (i need lots of luck,by the way how old is considered "old"?).I am also looking on anandenanthera species..

Any info on how to germinate their seeds? Im at a loss here and experience from other growers would be appreciated!

(When i say anandenanthera species i mean both peregrina and columbrina)

Germination of Anas is far from hard. I`ve had germination begin in seriously like an hour or two using the paper towel method. I`ve had terrible luck keeping them alive though...Felix might be right.

^^ accurate.  Definatly not hard to germ, and pea innoculant is your best bet on keeping it alive.

this is my colubrina cebil taken at 12 days, its now been almost 2 months and i have 3 full branches/fronds with a 4th starting(i need a new battery for my camera), i also did a pea innoculant.
Good luck

Super easy to start those things off. Just put a napkin in water, squeeze then put seeds inside and place in tupperware. It helps if the thing is places somewhere warm, but not super hot. After 3-5 days they should sprout or just put them in soil by then and boom, you have a couple plants.

Ok,so its easy but i need pea innoculant!

I suppose this is nitrogen fixing bacteria...I dont know of any commercial brands where i live.Is there any way i could introduce them in the soil? Do roots of beans and peas carry them "by default"? Then i could grow some roots onsome soil, macerate them and add them back in...

I hear that one can just grow peas and when they get to a certain height, clip them at the base of the plant, leaving the roots. Never tried it so I cant offer any info.

Myco, is pea innoculant found at most home and garden stores (Lowes, Home Depot)?

Interesting that you ask, as i work at lowes, although i have never seen pea innoculant there, i didn't really look either as i just planted a pea plant with mine.  Weird though cause after i cut it down to the soil line, it grew back about a week later, so i just cut it again.

And Myco do you have a more up to date picture of your yopo? I dont think I`ve even seen a picture of one past the seedling point. And am I right to assume thats Colubrina?

The coolest thing about them is the whole plant closes up at night. Then in the morning the leaves open up on the branches back again. I mean it is really crazy, the whole plant shrinks to almost nothing every night.
