newbie incubator questions
    #4158938 - 05/10/05 07:03 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Ive found that I need to build an incubator, I ve got the the 2 tubs for the TinT method and a submersible heater.

Im curious though what other suggestions or precautions you may have-

The instructions for the heater say not to lay it flat on the bottom of the tank(tub)- should I worry about that for this situation?

could I use the heater as I would in a fish tank (upright)?? or is it imperetive to be at the bottom of the tanks?

do I need to be concerned about humidity or anything like that for the jars while in the incubator?

Is it okay to expose to light while looking at jars at this stage or should I keep it all dark as poss. until its time to birth?

would it be good to do a similar incubation for the terrarium while fruiting?

many thanks!

<<do I need to be concerned about humidity or anything like that for the jars while in the incubator?>>
i personally use perlite in the incubator to maintain a high humidity so that the jars dont dry out

Its best to not let them get light cuz thats a pinning trigger. if u inspect them once a day for a short perid of time like a few seconds, then it will be ok, but light slows down colonization

Get a Submersible Fish Tank heater

It will come with suction cups that hold it to the bottom of the outer Tub.  It doesn't really hold down that well, so use tape or better yet, I use a metal clamp as a weight.

As long as you have the inside Tub containing your jars enclosed on the top.  Like using the lid or a blanket to keep the light out, It should not have too much humidity in the Tub to contaminate your jars. IME
