So I got my petri dishes and some PDA. I have a contaminated Cambodian syringe lying around. It's contammed with lipstick mold.
What I want to do is attempt to grow the mycellium on agar and try to isolate a healthy spot..would this work? Has it been dones successfully? I only have two strains right now and I really don't wanna toss them Cambodians..

Sure. If the lipstick mold starts growing, be sure to use a glovebox and not a flowhood. A flowhood will blow the mold spores everywhere.
I'd place only one drop from the syringe on the center of a petri dish. Immediately transfer any mushroom mycelium you find to a new dish. Make several dishes in advance to transfer into. As soon as the mycelium starts growing in the new dish, transfer some of the new growth to a second new dish before the mold has a chance to get going. I've had it take as many as four transfers to get a clean culture. RR

since the water in the syringe wont stay in one spot on the dish i would squirt the whole syringe onto a coffee filter and let it dry. Now use the spores on the coffee filter to do your agar work
