In Between Flushes
    #4156870 - 05/10/05 09:48 AM (18 years, 11 months ago)

I have a cake with damn near prolly 30 shrooms growing off of it, its a 1/4 pint. There are two main clusters, and then just shrooms everywhere. Oh yeah its my own invented In Vitro style. I need to harvest two of the shrooms this evening, as they will be ready to take a print off of. Will me harvesting these two mushrooms ruin the rest of the set?? If it is going to ruin the whole set ill sit back and let them do their thing, but they are going to drop spores everywhere. Is them dropping spores deffinately a bad thing??

use a sharp pair of scissors or a scalpel exacto knife to remove the cap alone that way you don't disturb the other mushroom if they are growing in a cluster spores are ok just messy

So just taking the cap off isn't going to effect the growth of the rest of the shrooms??? The pinset is uneven as all hell, But in two or three days there will be a very significant amount of mushrooms that will be mature. I Don't want to disrupt their cycle. Will slicing off the caps disrupt the cycle, or only picking the mushroom off the cake? Thanks dude.

just dont leave the stem on there too long another day maybe two but if you wait too long it could start to rot and make sure its a clean cut with a very sharp insturment

how could plucking the whole shroom affect the other mushrooms? so long as the others arent touched or disturbed, i cant see how thes could make a difference.

if the mushrooms were wholely seperate it would not be a problem at all but often time especially on cake mushrooms often grow in a tight cluster so just plucking it off could disturb the mycelium network before the others fully mature you could just cut the whole mushroom at the base with a sharp insturment that would be fine too

Low domain thanks for the help bro. I got two successful spore prints off my gulf coast strain. Then today i sliced off the stems nice an low and tight and hmm everything looks good.

Dalorean... I learned that whatyou said in fact is not true at all, the hard way. The only way you learn is experience. Dont be a fool. Stick to the rules. I picked a few mushrooms off a B+ cake and completely shut down the mycelial network on that flush. Only after another dunk and coldshock im seeing primordia and pins comeing back again. Yay.
