hot hot hot!
    #4157139 - 05/10/05 01:22 PM (12 years, 21 days ago)

I live in the scortch of the desert sun. just barely transfered colonized jars into an aquarium tererrium(that rhymes!). since then i havent been able to keep the temp much under 90*F. my mister i keep ice in it, but that doesn't much effect it. will my cakes still be able to pin in this environment? what other solutions are there? :mad2:

frozen bottles of water inside your FC, or put ice packs on the top of it (cold air is heavier)

if you need to make ice colder you can add salt to it.

air conditioner for your room would be the easiest thing to do

ac doesn't help much considering the location of the tererrium, and my plastic bag covering wont support weight of ice packs. i'll try the ice bottles. 75* optimum for pinning, right? cuz right now my cakes are only getting fluffier, like clouds. looking healthy, but not wanting to pin it seems like.

Yeah somewhere in the mid to low 70's. I try to fruit at 73.

maybe put your fruiting chamber in a large cooler if it will fit the insulation will hold your temps steady for a lot longer

that's a great idea. then you could easily, in the space between the cooler and the terrarium, place a couple of ice packs to drop temps.

Perhaps i shall try that. my aquarium is a 10 gallon. it should fit in a cooler with the greatest of cheese. think a rubbermaid can carry the same effect? I got large rubbermaids already.

to an extent yes. at the very least it will allow you to hold ice against the sides of the chamber, but it likely does not have the same temp. retention properties as a cooler

cooler would definetely work best just put the ten gallon right in and put a couple of frozen 2 liters next to it. I would also get a digital thermometer with a probe and run the probe into the cooler

Until I get the cooler, I'm putting frozen water bottles in the tererrium. Now my concern is if the extreme cold flow from the bottles could effect the cakes, cuz they'll be pretty close together, and i dont want to shock them. does this make sense?

as long as the bottles are not touching the cakes you shold be fine the drop in tempeture is actualy good as this will trigger the pinning stage but you want to get those temps in the mid to low 70s to get fruits

alright! I put 2 frozen bottles in tererrium in opposite corners and so far the temp has been at a constant 74*F. other than haveing to re-freeze the bottles over and over this will do perfect. thank you Deathbychimney for your advice. My advice to you now would be stay out of the chimneys
