another noob

Hey all, I need a little advice.
Soon I'll start growing mushrooms, but here where I live it's impossible to get vermiculite (and for now ordering online is not an option).
So after many weeks of reading through the site and the forum... I was thinking of trying a WBS tek. (i have a Pressure Cooker)
My question is, should I start with something easier (other than brf&verm) and, should i case or just fruit the cake?
Oh and another question. I have two syringes one is equador and one is ban hua tanon... which is better for the first time?

p.s.
yes I did the search, but just need some reassurance
Thank you.

Learn everything you can about casings, using the FAQ and the archives, and go for it.

I think WBS is fine. Or maybe rye. Since the consensus is that cakes are easier, I would go with that, otherwise you might get discouraged when your casings don't work. The first cakes I did were Ecuador and I got a LOT. So I say try that strain! Good luck

If you can find a source of weather aged h/poo - earthy smelling with nuggets & muffins still intact. I would gather some up for use as a substrate.

I would do PC'ed jars of WBS as spawn to h/poo substrate.

as far as i kno grains dont work well for fruiting as cakes. they have little water retention like verm does so looks like ure gonna have to case them for retaining moisture. remember shrooms are 92% water

I doubt it, but will try, what's the rate of contams using that?

@lordoftheshroomz
Tnx... well I might try one casing and one cake. I don't need many mushrooms just to have fun growing.

Btw is there any good substitue for verm?

the rate of contamination (with 100% col.ed cakes/jars) is probably lower than with any other substrate ime.

if you can't find a source of weathered Hpoo, then try Tennessee Stud Substrates

it'll pay off
