Well I'm 19, and that's YOUNG, I know, but I can't convince myself that I won't suck forever compared to these 12 year olds that started before me. I'm about to invest in a Korg EMX-1 and at least try to make some Techno/Goa/Something before my dreams go 100% down the toilet.
You ever start music late? Inspire me please. <---- like's inspiration.

If you are 19 now, imagine how good you will be in 6 years. You started early. Take a few years to develop your own style (only way to be succesful) then you'll be where you want to be.

you should take this to music art and literature. A lot of members will tell you there that software is better than hardware. Cheaper too.
Im a korg man myself. I have a triton 88. Love the damn thing.

I was 20 when I started playing the bass and composing music, keep at it man and you'll be kicking ass in no time!

Good times..I'm glad to hear it.
And I know alot about how software is "better" than hardware. It just..I just don't like software.
I'm not going to lie, I have no idea how to use Reason 3.0 which I downloaded, but it just seems so lame. I'd much rather use a machine.

Well..
I started producing hardcore house around age 12, when I reached the age of 23 I got introduced with better software. And after working with that software I went over from producing hardcore, to producing Goa like psychedelic soothing music.
I'm 28 now and have 2 kids, I have little time but when I do I set my advanced skills in action on produce some fine material. So just stick to it and your skills will improve. Listen to other peoples music a lot as well. Dissect music in your mind, listen to your own material on different types of players.
Ask musicians what they think about your music.
And know that your doing it to have fun.

I started playing the guitar when I was 16, and switched to classical guitar when I was 17. I'm 25 now. I don't play that much anymore, mostly because I have to hide my guitar so my dogs won't chew on it, so it's not "around to be played" anymore. I know this sounds stupid.

started playing piano when i was in 1st grade, i was probably 6-7 years back then.. then moved to guitar when i was 15-16 or somethin.
o ya and im 20 now

I started playing the violin in high school. I stopped for a long time, thne about 6 months ago( I think) someone from work gave me a violin...and I started playing again. I play the piano as well...for as long as I can remember. I plan on learning the bass guitar real soon.

I started bass when I was 15. I'm 19 now, I'm not quite where I'd like to be at 4 years but in a way I hope I always think there's room for improvement.

I started playing bass when I was 12 (got it for my 12th birthday). Had an acoustic guitar kicking around earlier but bass really got me into it, then I picked up drums when I was 14/15. Now I play a lot of different instruments. It's never too late and its never too soon but pressing buttons on your computer doesn't make you a musician. Sorry folks. And singing into your laptop doesn't count as a performance in my books, this seems to be a new trend in my city.

same for me, although i won't be 20 until sunday.

I started playing bass at around 17, and I'm almost 24 now.. Damn, it's already been almost 7 years? 
If it is something you really want to do, just stick with it. Every little bit of practice can help advance your abillity, even if it feels like you may be acheiving the oposite. When you are out and about, create beats and songs in your head, work on your musical co-ordination by tapping your hands on different surfaces whenever you feel bored, you know you have the creativity in you, so bring that shit out in any way you can.. hell, I believe even drawing, dancing and working on other artistic modes of expression may actually help many of these similar abilities to sort of potentiate one another.. maybe you can use this to your advantage.
You know what you have to do..so get to it

I remember one time when I was tripping, I just turned 16 and I picked up my bass and all these amazing licks were coming out of me, it was flowing so nice I couldn't believe my ears or that my fingers were actually playing them, it was an incredible feeling. I've never played so well in all my life then at that moment. I was in the zone, like someone else wwas playing through me.

in grade school.
I learned how to play many of the brass instruments...during the school years.
then when I was 14 or 15...I picked up my first bass guitar.
I'm 45 now...and still play. 
I can listen to a song and hear the bass lines and pick them up.
I have several close friends that made it big...and I'm very proud of them!~
I was asked to join several bands...and turned down some great opportunities.
All the Seattle bands seemed to be looking for a bass player back in my day.
No regrets...I don't like playing in front of a crowd...just wasn't for me!~
But I have played with some amazing musicans over the years.
I'm teaching my 11 year old son how to play bass right now.

 once i was playing a friend's acoustic guitar while tripping quite heavily. needless to say, i didn't think to tune the guitar before playing. and as i was playing, i started coming up with these crazy ass riffs - combinations like my ears had never heard before, simply beautiful combinations of melody and harmony at the same time.
the next day, when i tried to play the same things again, it sounded all whacked. then i picked up my friends acoustic, and realized that it had just been tuned completely randomly and crazily, hence the uniqueness of the songs i had been playing the day before.
damn. beautiful riffs lost to eternity!

I was 16 when I started bass and 18 when I started playing guitar. I love it to death man.
