Keeping the temperature steady
    #4155126 - 05/09/05 11:18 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hi

I live in a cool climate the days are in the 70's and the nights in the low 50's. I can't get the temp up in my home to the optimum mid 80's. Can I use a heating pad and a thermometer to get the temp of my jars up to a more respectable range? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hardwaters

I have used a large metal filing cabinet for years, with a heat pad under the bottom drawer. Bottom drawer is 82F, top is 78F. I keep an open water bottle in the bottom drawer, to maintain ambiant rh a bit higher than the room air. Works for me.

Wow.. what a simple yet very ghetto setup agar. Proves everything will work with a little patience. The heatbomb is okay but only really heats up the stuff immediately around it. So..... it's not too effective unless you're into moving jars around, spinning them 180 degrees..etc. I love my TiT. Get yourself a Penn-Plax 250W in tank and you're friggin set!

I suggest a 14 gallon Rubbermaid container, inside of a 18 gallon Rubbermaid container.  Then put some water and a submersible aquarium heater in the 18.
Roadkill had a picture, and i bought the exact same setup (Hey RK, do you have a 'Tetra' aquarium heater?)
